Senior Creative Copywriter and Strategist

The senior creative copywriter and strategist is a key player in crafting compelling and persuasive content that drives engagement and supports the marketing strategies of our health-focused clients. As a member of the Copywriting/Strategy team, they also collaborate closely with the Creative and Client Services teams to produce high-quality written materials across various platforms.

They focus their efforts on medical devices, “over the counter” products, patient education, and direct-to-consumer type of projects and ensure a continued participation and production as a strategic copywriter, and as a mentor to junior members of the writing team. They are implicated in the preparation for and presentation of client pitch meetings.

  • Demonstrates the ability to analyze diverse audience needs and adapt messaging, tone, and engagement strategies to ensure relevance and impact
  • Deep understanding of health and wellness topics, marketing principles, and digital marketing tools. Familiarity with SEO best practices and content management systems is an asset
  • Ability to conduct research and assess the quality of sources, and support strategic reasoning
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Skilled at guiding discussions and finding common ground among assertive team members.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office (particularly Word and Powerpoint).

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of creative copywriting experience in a marketing or advertising agency, with a strong portfolio in health marketing or other regulated industries, and proven strategic experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Literature, Marketing, or a related discipline. Advanced degrees or certifications in health communication are a plus
  • Proven track record of creating successful marketing campaigns for health-related clients
  • Knowledge and application of PAAB Code and Advertising Standards Canada (ASC) Code is a strong asset
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and make informed content decisions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Experience speaking to consumer audiences for Canadian clients
  • Experience in veterinary medicine content is a plus.

Main responsibilities

Copywriting

  • Content Creation: Develop engaging and persuasive copy for various audiences across a variety of mediums, including digital campaigns (including social media, email marketing, websites, etc.), brochures, and video scripts, etc. Write the outline and the creative copy based on a project brief.
  • Editing and Proofreading: Ensure all content is polished, error-free, and adheres to brand voice and style guidelines.
  • Research: Conduct in-depth research on health-related topics, staying up to date with industry trends and advancements to produce accurate and relevant content.
  • Concept creation: Collaborate with the Creative, Client Services and Strategy teams to brainstorm and develop innovative concepts that align with client goals and brand guidelines.
  • Understands the client's strategic objectives and the rules governing pharmaceutical and health related advertising in Canada (ASC, PAAB, etc) to produce a creative product adapted to the appropriate audience within the healthcare market.
  • Project Management: Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and maintaining high standards of quality. Coordinate with project managers to meet deadlines.
  • Client Interaction: Present work to clients, incorporating feedback and making necessary revisions. Build and maintain strong client relationships. Work on client pitches for creative content related matter.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and guide junior copywriters in terms of creative content, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. Provide training and development opportunities to enhance their skills.
  • Performance Analysis: Use data/results from past campaigns and/or tactics to suggest updates to messaging and/or new tactics to help optimize future campaigns and improve engagement networks.

Strategy:

  • Approach client needs with a strategic mindset to deliver effective outcomes
  • Analyze the state of account situations (market, product characteristics, demographics and target audience, points of differentiation, competition, issues) as well as conduct a SWOT analysis
  • Understand the various regulations within the pharmaceutical industry (e.g. PAAB, ASC, FDA)
  • Find solutions to identified issues, clarify, and enhance the client's communication objectives
  • Contribute to the creation of 360-degree tactical plans, strategy guidelines, positioning statements, and communication axes (key messages)
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions with the Creative, Client Services, and Copywriting teams and the generation of tactics
  • Ensure the consistency of tactics and promotional axes developed across their iterations between teams
  • Participate in the development of the creative content of presentations for advisory committees based on business objectives and facilitate discussions with participating physicians and other health professionals (when needed)
  • Organize and lead ideation sessions (internally and with clients)
  • Participate in brand planning development with clients (as needed)
  • Actively participate in client meetings and effectively represent creative work to them
  • Develop and maintain excellent client relationships, and earn the trust and respect of client counterparts
  • Engage with clients to determine strategy and deliverables for upcoming sales meetings
  • Work with Client Services to develop tactical proposals and brand plans for clients’ upcoming fiscal year
  • Participate in RFP preparation as needed
  • Review and ensure the creative section of new business presentations meet or exceed agency standards
  • Mentor, guide, and challenge Medical and Creative Copywriters and Artistic Directors in terms of ways to present/digest content. Refine and grow concepts. Propose innovative ideas
  • Constantly push for excellence in project development and the achievement of clients’ objectives
